In 1929 I found myself suffering...

In 1929 I found myself suffering from a rheumatic condition. The physician's diagnosis was vague about my chances of recovery, and my consciousness included little else but fear, depression, and despair.

Yet in this darkest hour, Love's all-inclusive plan emerged. Through Christian Science, my mother had had a remarkable healing of blindness years before, and a relative whom I knew to be a devoted Christian Scientist now came to visit me. I cannot recall just what was said. It was not very much, quantitatively, but for the first time in weeks I felt like eating dinner that evening. Within a few days I tried walking along a nearby fence. My back began to straighten. Gradually, my normal chores on the farm were resumed, in addition to full-time schoolwork.

I was pleased to have regained my freedom. But in spite of this experience, I drifted on without applying myself to the study of the Bible and of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. It was not until several years afterward that I gave Christian Science my unconditional acceptance.

Since then I have had beautiful demonstrations of Truth, and progress has resulted from application of the teachings instituted by our great Master, Jesus, and elucidated in Christian Science. With meager preparation I finished an undergraduate curriculum in a European institution and went on to complete my graduate training in two leading American universities. Much was gained in the way of better health, increasing happiness, companionship, guidance, and supply. Many healings were witnessed in the family, and greater freedom has come to us. All I am and all I have, I owe to Christian Science.

There can be no doubt that our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, through her writings and the founding of her Church with its ever-growing functions has contributed more to the well-being of mankind than anyone since the days of Jesus. My thanks go out to her, and to our practitioners for their healing ministrations, as well as to all Scientists who serve our great Cause.—Hans Brawand, Dallas, Texas.
