I should like to express gratitude...

I should like to express gratitude for the renewed sense of being which has come to me through the study and application of Christian Science. This Science was introduced to me by a relative who was living some distance away and who used to send Christian Science periodicals to our family.

What reading I did in them impressed me with the thought that here was something which would heal anything. That thought remained with me, for I had always had a great fear of so-called incurable diseases. Later a tubercular condition developed. I was smoking and drinking quite a bit, and the condition grew steadily worse.

One day I decided I had better get some help; so I called a Christian Science practitioner. It was on a Wednesday, and I was lovingly asked to attend the testimony meeting that night in a Church of Christ, Scientist. At that time I was very timid, fearful of large crowds, and self-conscious. When I went to the meeting I was very grateful to see such friendly people and to feel such an atmosphere of love.

My first visit with the practitioner was wonderful. I felt lifted right out of my sense of fear by the truth I glimpsed. The healing of tuberculosis followed, and with it went the desire to smoke and drink. Since I lived in close contact with those who indulged in such habits, I had a struggle to overcome them, but I rejoiced in the victory. I found employment that was very satisfactory, and my relationships with others improved as I gained a knowledge of man's unity with God, the one Mind.

I am truly grateful to God, the Giver of all good, for Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, and for Mary Baker Eddy, our Leader. And likewise I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, where I have the privilege of serving in our great Cause through the church activities. —Robert Jenkins, Jr., Roxbury, Massachusetts.
