Since my first testimony was...

Since my first testimony was published in the Sentinel of March 13, 1948, many blessings have unfolded for me, including membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, the wonderful privilege of class instruction, and our annual association meetings. All of these experiences have brought much growth, joy, and happiness into my life.

I would like to relate an incident which proved to me that "man's extremity is God's opportunity." We were having some remodeling done in a bedroom, and I was going to finish painting a built-in cabinet in a closet. One afternoon after the men had left I prepared my paints and sat down on the floor in the closet to paint near the baseboard.

When I started to get up I was suddenly seized with a severe pain and found I could not move. For a while, fear paralyzed my thinking, and I felt that I was going to pass on. No one was around, and I did not expect anyone for a few hours. I tried to get up again to reach the telephone in another room, but was unable to do so.

Turning to God, I realized I was not alone and that I had help: I had God. I prayed to Him in gratitude for the many healings I had had in Christian Science. The fear lessened; so I started singing Mrs. Eddy's hymns and other hymns from our Christian Science Hymnal. With my thought quieted, I sat still for a long time listening and talking to God.

Then the angel message came (Science and Health, p. 393): "Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man." The message was so plain that I quickly got up. Fear and pain had vanished, and I was free. I am grateful to say the trouble has never returned.

For this healing and many others, I am truly thankful. I am grateful to Mrs. Eddy for her untiring effort in giving Christian Science to the world. Also, I am grateful for The Mother Church radio and television programs, for The Christian Science Monitor Youth Forums, where young Christian Scientists can meet together; and for all the activities of our movement.—(Mrs.) Mary Allen, Tucson, Arizona.
