I wish to express my sincere...
I wish to express my sincere gratitude for all the blessings I have received through the study of Christian Science. It was my privilege to attend a Christian Science Sunday School from the age of three years until I was twenty, and my every need has been met when I have applied the truth to the situation.
When our daughter was about three months old, her bowels suddenly ceased to function. I studied earnestly to see that in truth there is only one Parent, God, and that Mind regulates every function. I realized that I must overcome my fear and was much comforted by these words on page 151 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures": "Fear never stopped being and its action."
The local practitioner was on vacation, and at the end of five days, when I felt I must ask for help, I made an overseas telephone call for absent treatment. The practitioner said, "Loose her and let her go," and then continued to speak with such love and tenderness that I felt the tension leave me completely. I was able to return to my study of the truth with renewed confidence that the condition would be healed.
I arranged a Bible, Mrs. Eddy's writings, and a Christian Science Hymnal in the child's room, and when I fed her during the day or night I read or sang aloud to keep my thoughts away from the contemplation of matter. The child was not distressed or ill at all. She took her usual food and slept peacefully. I stopped counting the days, but about two weeks passed.
One day I took the child in my arms and listened to all our recordings of the Christian Science hymns. Each one had a healing message, and I listened carefully to the beautiful singing. When I heard these words (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 51),
The clouds of sense roll back, and show
The form divinely fair,
I suddenly saw that the child was not really a material body, subject to organic growth and development, but a spiritual idea "divinely fair." Truly the clouds of sense rolled back, and as the light of Truth flooded my consciousness, the healing took place then and there, and it has been permanent.
I am more grateful to God than I can express that our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, gave this wonderful truth to the world. I am also deeply grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church and for class instruction.—(Mrs.) Betty Fingland, Montagu Heights, Nassau, Bahamas.
