Signs of the Times
Rev. Alan Walker in the Sydney Sun-Herald New South Wales, Australia
No one can estimate the influence of a good man. The blessing he expresses spreads far....
It was through the power of small groups of people who were obedient to Christ Jesus that the power of the Christian church penetrated the society of the first century.
In an anxious world people appeared who were calm and serence. They spoke and lived purely. ... In a society which held aloft ruthless, military virtues they stood for forgiveness and magnanimity and good will. In a materialist age good will. In a materialist age they were interested in the things that endure eternally.
And so the influence of these cells of new life spread, changing the world.
The world cries out for groups of people who will think and live differently, set flowing the contagious influences of goodness.
Herbert Spaugh in the Fort Lauderdale News and Sentinel, Florida
There seems to be no limit to man's ingenuity in devising mechanical work-saving devices. A trip through any modern industrial plant is a source of amazement as one sees the intricate mechanical devices for mass production. The same is true in the field of mechanical and electronic business machines. We've gone so far as even to develop mechanical devices which compute mathematical problems and also sort out names, words, phrases....
If we could develop spiritual ingenuity comparable to our mechanical ingenuity, we would be emptying our hospitals and jails, dismantling our armament factories, pulling down our distilleries, and making this atomic age one of blessing instead of one of fear and apprehension. We could do it, too, if we would spend as much time and effort on spiritual research and experimentation as we do in the field of mechanics and electronics.
Dr. Carlyle Adams in the Times-Union Albany, New York
We are so accustomed in prayer to say, "Our Father," that we forget that ... God is our heavenly Mother as well as our heavenly Father. ... The qualities of love and tenderness, mercy, compassion, and patience that are associated with human motherhood are qualities that come from the very heart of God. ... That was the testimony of Isaiah the prophet, who heard the divine voice say to him: "As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you."
