I have been a student of Christian Science...

I have been a student of Christian Science for more than forty years. As a child I was sick most of the time, and I was a semi-invalid until I was twenty-four years old. I attended my first Wednesday testimony meeting at a Church of Christ, Scientist, to please a friend. The readings from the Bible and from the Christian Science textbook. Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, as well as the testimonies, so impressed me that I resolved that night to learn all that I could about this new and interesting religion. Immediate results were evident, and my health was regained. My husband and our small son were also benefited by the truth that was brought into our home.

In the years since that time we have had many proofs of the efficacy of the healing power of Christian Science, which overcomes difficulties of every kind, including physical discord, financial problems, inharmonious relationships, and grief. I enjoyed excellent health until a year or so ago, when I was suddenly seized with an attack of illness. The seizure was so sharp that I collapsed almost as soon as I had called a practitioner for help. I was in a semiconscious state all night.

The practitioner worked faithfully, and within five days I was so much improved that I was able to go downstairs unaided and attend to some chores in the kitchen. However, after several days of progress I again became very weak and barely conscious. Much fear was expressed by those around me who were not Christian Scientists, and the demand that I have material aid was most insistent. For more than two weeks I could retain no food or water, and for twenty-three days I had no bowel movement.

There was a Christian Science nurse in attendance, the practitioner was doing faithful metaphysical work, and I too was doing as much prayerful work as I was capable of doing. My relatives feared that I was passing on, but I told them that I would not consent to having materia medica nor submit to artificial feeding. After I took this positive stand, progress came rapidly. Within a week after I began sitting up, I was able to attend a Wednesday evening meeting. In two weeks I was back at work, and I have been feeling perfectly well ever since.

During this time the practitioner also handled the problem of inadequate finances for me. A lease on a piece of property was made, and it brought in a sufficient amount to care for some immediate obligations. A tract of land already under lease was drilled on and is now producing oil.

Never have I been so aware of God's presence and power as I was after the first few days of this illness. There was no fear in my thinking, nor any doubt that I lived, moved, and had my being in God. I was stirred and stimulated by this whole experience and am profoundly grateful for the lessons I learned. The love, patience, and persistence manifested by the practitioner were beyond any I have ever seen. My gratitude to God for the healing is more than words can express.—(Mrs.) Grace L. Browne, Shreveport, Louisiana.
