Progress in the College Organizations

The Christian Science Organization at Northern Illinois State Teachers College reported that its participation in the student activities carnival was successful. The organization set up a display in order to explain the functions of a Christian Science Organization to the student body. The members of the organization felt that a display of Mary Baker Eddy's writings, The Christian Science Monitor, and other periodicals would help to spread the healing message of Christian Science. The organization reports:

"A room in which to prepare our project and work on it was lovingly provided in the home of our adviser. Our organization and those not yet members worked on the display whenever they had free hours. Among the tasks to be accomplished were the lettering' of the sign to read 'Christian Science Organization'; the mounting of pertinent feature articles in the Monitor with plastic covers to make them noticeable and to preserve them; and the working out of a suitable arrangement for the display.

"The extra help needed on the final day came spontaneously, and everything fell into alignment almost effortlessly. The setting up of the displays was allowed to start three hours before the carnival was scheduled to begin. Since our adviser's home is located right by the campus, it took very little effort to bring the parts of the display to the gymnasium.

"The exhibit was colorful and most attractive. The effect was eye catching the entire length of the gymnasium. The color scheme of yellow and blue was fresh and cheerful. In the center of the display was a table on which were placed all of Mary Baker Eddy's writings, which were lovingly supplied us by the Trustees under her will. Nearby was a sign indicating that the books could be borrowed. On another table was the October issue of The Christian Science Journal opened to the page on which our college was listed and underlined. Next to the Journal was a rack of current Monitors, which were free for the taking. Also there were Sentinels and pamphlets in various languages.

"During the evening two-member shifts were stationed at the display to distribute periodicals and answer questions asked by visitors. It was very gratifying to us during our shift at our display whenever some new-student noticed or commented on it. One stranger asked for the page where 'the scientific statement of being' could be found. After she was told, she opened a copy of 'Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures' by Mrs. Eddy which was on display and found the page. She then turned to a friend who was with her and suggested that the friend read it, remarking that it is 'the most beautiful part in the book.'

"Part of the fruitage of this activity has been the better attendance at our meetings since the display and increased expressions of gratitude during the testimony period."
