A number of years ago, in my...
A number of years ago, in my search for an answer to the problems of life that confronted me, I found Christian Science. It was first presented to me after my young daughter had severely injured her leg. A physician was called, and X rays were taken. She was put to bed and was told to remain there for six weeks or she would be crippled for life, as the ligaments were torn.
At the end of the first week there was no improvement, and the leg was swollen to twice the normal size. The doctor informed me that he could do nothing for her, but that time would heal the condition if she remained in bed.
The second week I was led to call a Christian Science practitioner for help. In a very few hours the swelling subsided about 50 per cent. The practitioner assured me of God's loving care and asked me to purchase a copy of Science and Health b Mrs. Eddy and to study this passage (p. 393): "Be firm in your understanding that the divine Mind governs, and that in Science man reflects God's government. Have no fear that matter can ache, swell, and be inflamed as the result of a law of any kind, when it is self-evident that matter can have no pain nor inflammation."
While I did not fully understand what I read, I accepted it as the truth, and the following week end the child was completely healed and able to ride her bicycle. This healing took place more than fifteen years ago, and I am grateful to say that during the intervening years she has enjoyed dancing, skiing, swimming, and playing tennis without any ill effects.
There have been many healings of various kinds since then; one of them being that of sinus infection. This healing was accomplished as I learned to apply Christian Science to everyday problems and to overcome a sense of irritation and impatience with life in general.
Words cannot express the gratitude to God I feel for Mrs. Eddy's efforts in our behalf. I am increasingly grateful for the privilege of membership in The Mother Church and a branch church and for the opportunity of serving the Cause of Christian Science.—(Mrs.) Iris Stiles, Los Gatos, California.
