HEALED FOREVER

[Of Special Interest to Children]

Sally and David love to take trips with their mother and father in their shiny red automobile. They especially like to go to their grandparents' house, because they pass many farms on the way.

Now, since Sally and David live in a large city, they like very much to watch for farm animals and for farm machinery as they travel through the countryside. In the spring the little lambs and pigs please them greatly, and in the summer David likes to watch for all the different machines the farmers use in their fields.

But there was one thing that made Sally and David unhappy. Error would tell them that when they rode in a car for a long trip, they felt quite sick and uncomfortable. One day their mother reminded them of these words in the very first book of the Bible, called Genesis (1:27, 31): "God created man in his own image in the image of God created he him," and, "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good."

So, first of all," their mother said, "it is important to remember that God is the Father and Mother of every single one of us. He is good and perfect. And we are really His good, perfect children, because He made us in His likeness. Then, what is it that is trying to tell you that you feel sick?"

Both children knew that it was only a lie called error, because they had learned this through Christian Science. Mother went on to explain that, like any lie, error just isn't true. God knows everything good, but He doesn't know error. Therefore His perfect children cannot really know error either.

Mother said that once in a while she had heard the children cry out in their sleep; so knew that they were dreaming about something which made them unhappy. They were really fast asleep in their beds, but for a few minutes they were believing that they were somewhere else. And she said that is just the way with error! It is as untrue as any dream!

Was the night dream real? Weren't the children in their beds, safe and warm? Mother reminded them that Christian Science says that error is not real. God's children are safe and well and perfect always. And just as we awaken from a dream at night, so we awaken from what error is trying to tell us. We understand that God is always taking care of His good and perfect children. Then error disappears, just as the dream disappears.

After they talked about God, Sally and David always felt better; but on the very next trip error would try to whisper the same lie to them again.

One day when they started out in their car, a wonderful thing happened! A woman who is a Christian Science practitioner and a very good friend of Sally's and David's was with them on this trip. And they said to her as they started out, "Will you please think about God for us, so we will not be sick on this trip?" And the kind woman talked to them of God and of His great love for them, and she told them that God made them spiritual and perfect, just as the Bible says.

Sally and David felt happy and were sure that knowing the truth would heal them; and they were not least bit uncomfortable during the whole trip! Before they arrived home, the practitioner said to them, "Let us know that you are healed of car sickness forever."

And so, Sally and David knew that since God had healed them, they would never feel uncomfortable in the car again. And they never have!

Mary Baker Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 74), "In Christian Science there is never a retrograde step, never a return to positions outgrown." When Truth heals us we can never go back to the old belief again. We have outgrown the error as surely as we have outgrown error as surely as we have outgrown our clothes. And just as we never go back into our old, outworn clothes, so in Christian Science we never go backward to old, discarded beliefs.

This healing took place several years ago; but Sally and David are still grateful to God for healing them so quickly. And they are grateful to the kind practitioner for telling them so clearly and firmly that Truth not only heals, but heals forever.
