It would require a book to tell...
It would require a book to tell of all the blessings that have unfolded to me and my family since we began studying Christian Science several years ago. I submit the following proofs of God's loving care in the hope that it may help others to avail themselves of the sacred privilege of understanding Truth.
My family and I spent a year in a small town on the west coast of Alaska. The town was noted for the drunkenness in it. Our house faced a street at the foot of which was a liquor bar, and for weeks our view included scenes of drunkenness. I accepted these scenes without giving them much thought beyond an occasional one of disgust until one day, while watching the antics of a man who had emerged from the bar, I realized that I was bearing false witness against my neighbor.
Turning away and silently declaring the perfection of man as God's spiritual child, I resolved constantly to see man as he really is. In holding to the truth I had to cling to the idea of man's perfection in all ways. This corrected view dissolved irritability and many other undesirable traits of character that I had manifested.
Within a few weeks my husband called my attention to the fact that we had not seen a person under the influence of liquor for many days, nor did we see any more drunkenness in that town. Through this experience I learned that in any situation it is only our own view that must be corrected and that man must be seen as he really is, pure and perfect.
During the winter two epidemics struck the town simultaneously, one of influenza and one of polio. When our twelve-year-old daughter suddenly became ill, I helped her to bed and began work in Science immediately. My husband was out of town, it was late at night, and the thermometer registered twenty degrees below zero. As I had no way of calling for any human help, we had to rely on God alone. We learned that our extremity was His opportunity. My daughter was too ill to read; so I read to her from the Bible and from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
There was no improvement the next day, and I became so filled with fear that I could not even read any more. I put aside the books and prayed fervently for the right thoughts. Suddenly I knew that God alone is responsible for His children and that He loves and cares for them every moment. Gratitude for this truth filled my entire thought until there was not a bit of room for fear. Our daughter slept peacefully all night and awakened in the morning completely healed.
My constant prayer is to be a true Christian Scientist and thus show my gratitude to God for His Son, Christ Jesus, and for Mrs. Eddy, who revealed this marvelous Science of Truth to us in a way we can understand. I take this opportunity also to express my gratitude for the practitioners who have so unselfishly and lovingly helped me and my family.—(Mrs.) Katharine Schneider, Arcata, California.
