[Original testimony in German]

For many years the testimonies...

For many years the testimonies given at the Wednesday evening meetings and those printed in The Herald of Christian Science (German Edition) have made me realize that healing is a present possibility. I feel unspeakably grateful when I think of the consecration with which our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, worked to make clear to all mankind its right to freedom.

During the years that I have been studying Christian Science I have had many proofs of God's great goodness and His omnipresence. I should like to relate one experience here. Some years ago, through the loving work of a practitioner. I gave birth to a child almost painlessly. A week later an explosion occurred in our house which resulted in the child's suffering a severe umbilical hemorrhage.

I called the practitioner who had helped me, and among other things she mentioned these words of Mrs. Eddy's which had been continually coming to my thought (Science and Health, p. 206): "Does God send sickness, giving the mother her child for the brief space of a few years and then taking it away by death?" The answer came to me, "God is not cruel and would not do that." Despite the work of the practitioner I was very fearful, and yet I knew that it was this very fear that was preventing the healing.

At last I was aroused to claim God's protecting power, and this passage came to mind (Zech. 2:5): "For I, saith the Lord, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her."' Then an abundance of wonderful thoughts came to my consciousness. I saw the child as safe in God's love, and I mentally exclaimed, "Peace, be still." Great joy and gratitude filled my thought, and with tears in my eyes I thanked God with an overflowing heart for His presence and help. I knew that this change in my thought was the healing that was needed. My fear disappeared, and the child was soon out of danger. His recovery was quick and complete.

I am grateful for this demonstration of healing. By some it was called a miracle, but I knew that, as Mrs. Eddy tells us (Science and Health, p. 494). "The miracle of grace is no miracle to Love." For several years now our child has been a pupil in the Sunday School, and he applies the truth for himself.

I am grateful for the work of the practitioner and for the spiritual progress I have made. In addition, I am sincerely grateful for all the activities of The Mother Church and for membership in it and in a branch church, where I have the privilege of serving in various capacities.—(Mrs.) Elisabeth M. K. Thompson, Frankfurt/Main, Germany.
