That Christian Science comforts...

That Christian Science comforts and cures is to me an established fact. As a very young child I was healed of infantile paralysis after the doctor had told my parents he could do no more for me and that death was imminent. I was completely paralyzed, except for my head, which I could slowly turn from side to side. Christian Science was presented to my parents in the form of a periodical left in a railroad station by a literature distribution committee. Through the work of a practitioner and my mother's holding steadfastly to the scientific fact that man is the image and likeness of God, my healing came. This healing was complete in every way and has remained permanent.

Years later the following experience occurred and has ever since been an inspiration to me. My young son was brought home from school by the nurse, who informed me that a marble had become lodged in his nostril. She had tried to remove it, but could not. Deciding that instruments were necessary, she had notified the hospital to make arrangements for the care of the child. During her explanation I worked prayerfully to know the truth of the Bible promise (Ps. 91:10), "There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling."

Then the allegory of the Adam-dream came into my thinking, and I began to declare that because God's child is not a part of the Adam-dream, there cannot be an obstruction, or a dam, in his consciousness or experience. I declared the truth aloud, and as I tilted the child's head back the marble rolled out into my hand. I bathed his face, and he returned to school as well as ever. After that I was never again approached on the matter of having physical examinations for the children each summer, as previously had been the ease.

When my daughter was fifteen months old she fell against a heater, badly burning one of her hands, especially the fingers. The thought was expressed that the burn was so severe her fingers might always be stiff. I became fearful, and inflammation resulted. With the help of a practitioner the fear was removed, and the hand healed perfectly. Today one cannot tell which hand was burned.

In Proverbs we are told (3:5. 6): "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him. and he shall direct thy paths." These verses, which I learned in Sunday School years ago, have been a source of support and assurance. Purification of consciousness has brought about a happy and satisfying adjustment in each problem, and the experiences have inspired me to seek and find a greater insight into the reality of being.

I should like to express gratitude for the privilege I had of attending the Christian Science Sunday School, a happy experience which my children are enjoying now, and for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church. My heart goes out in thanks to God for our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy; for the stanch support of practitioners and other Scientists who have helped me in times of need; and for the unfoldment of class instruction, which affords me a priceless treasure.—(Mrs.) Mary L. Brand, Atlanta, Georgia.
