In Malachi we read (3:10)...

In Malachi we read (3:10), "Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house." It is with deep gratitude that my testimony, or tithe of gratitude, is given.

My brother was the first of our family to witness the omnipotence of Truth and Love. He was very ill with bronchial pneumonia, and the doctor had given him only a short time to live. My mother telephoned an aunt, who was a practitioner, and she gave him an absent treatment. Before my mother had returned from the public telephone, three blocks away, my brother had awakened from a coma to request food and to express a desire to get up and dress. He was completely healed.

I am very grateful to my mother for having enrolled me, as well as my sister and brother, in the Christian Science Sunday School at an early age. Christian Science is my only help, and I thank God for it every day. I owe unlimited gratitude to the Master, Christ Jesus, and to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, whose unselfish love for God and her fellow men prompted her to bring the Christ, Truth, to light again.

Some years ago I suffered a nervous breakdown, and for some time I appeared about to pass on. A practitioner was called, and I was up and about my usual duties the next day.

Words are inadequate to describe the spiritual inspiration which came to me as a result of a beautiful proof of protection. While I was busy my two-and-a-half-year-old daughter opened our door and went down the hall, where she opened the door of the elevator to our fourth-floor apartment. This elevator was known for its unreliability. Apparently the roof of the cage was at our floor, and in some manner the child got the door open and stepped onto the top of the cage, where she became greatly frightened. When I heard her screams and found where she was I instantly declared that there are no accidents in divine Mind, as God is All-in-all. The fire department was called, and one of the men who came accidentally tripped the mechanism which propels the cage upward.

Amid the confusion I bowed my head and silently repeated the Lord's Prayer with its spiritual interpretation by Mrs. Eddy (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, pp. 16, 17). When a friend told me to get my coat, as I would probably have to go with the child in an ambulance, I said that it would not be necessary, as my child would not be harmed in any way. I persistently denied all erroneous suggestions until I felt the chains of fear slipping from me.

The firemen ran up to the fifth floor, where they were able to stop the elevator. Then they took out the pins in the door and carefully reached the child. In about twenty minutes she was in my arms with no worse effects than a little grease on her dress. To me this experience was a wonderful proof of God's omnipresence and omnipotence. The next day the papers called it a miracle.

I am grateful to be a member of The Mother Church and of a branch church, where it is my privilege to take part in the activities.—(Mrs.) Marion Brown, Oak Park, Illinois.
