"THE FRIEND OF GOD"

"A Friend may well be reckoned the masterpiece of Nature." About eighteen hundred years before Emerson wrote those words the Apostle James declared (2:23), "The scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God."

This meaningful tribute was justified by Abraham's unswerving faith and trust in God, good. He proved that he believed God by obeying His will without reservation. His fidelity was expressed in co-operation and willingness to surrender self, as well as his most treasured human possession.

This sacred appellation, "the Friend of God," shed a new light on friendship for a student of Christian Science who previously had attributed and confined that precious word friend solely to human beings. Now she readily saw that God is universally and impartially everyone's friend. God's perennial showers of blessings evidence His constant tender, loving care.
