PROTECTION

Christian Science teaches that protection is found in the demonstration of the truth contained in Mary Baker Eddy's statement in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 518), "The rich in spirit help the poor in one grand brotherhood, all having the same Principle or Father; and blessed is that man who seeth his brother's need and supplieth it, seeking his own in another's good."

No merely human desire to do good or self-righteous sense of personal spiritual wealth brings this perception of another's need, and no such thinking, of course, could ever supply it; but an acknowledgement of the all-inclusiveness of Spirit and its loving protection of all its ideas always quickens spiritual sensibility and brings to light ways that effectively meet the human need.

Mrs. Eddy tells us (ibid., p. 13): "Love is impartial and universal in its adaptation and bestowals. It is the open fount which cries, 'Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters.'" As we are willing to entertain this revolutionary thought—and it is truly revolutionary, because even the highest humanly moral belief says that some individuals are evil and some good and that the evil ones deserve to perish and the good ones to survive—we see that in order to bring all mankind into the shelter and protection of divine Love we must bear witness to the all-inclusive truth of being, the perfection of God's creation. We must accept the impartiality and universality of Truth as the source and inspiration of our own thoughts.
