I am indeed grateful for Christian Science

I am indeed grateful for Christian Science. It has been my only physician for the past sixteen years, during which time I have witnessed many healings. One which made a great impression on me occurred when I was a very new student of Science. My sister sent a neighbor to tell me to come at once, as her husband was very ill. This neighbor said that she had been with my sister all morning and that together they had taken my brother-in-law to two different hospitals. The doctors at both places had reported that they thought his appendix was ruptured and that he was in such a serious condition he must have an operation immediately if his life was to be saved. He would not consent to an operation, however, and had asked to be brought home.

Although the neighbor said that she thought my brother-in-law was passing on, I silently declared the truth the best I knew how and clung to the fact that God is man's life. I felt that I did not know how to give a Christian Science treatment, but my consciousness was so filled with the truth that I did not doubt God's ever-presence.

When we arrived at my brother-in-law's home he was in a very bad state. I had been a medical nurse before I was healed in Science a short time previously, and during my nursing experience I would have been very much alarmed at such material appearances as he was manifesting; but now I did not feel afraid. Before long he asked my sister to call an ambulance, saying that he could not stand the pain any longer and that he would have to return to the hospital. As they had recently moved into a new subdivision and the nearest telephone was several blocks away, I told them that I would go to the telephone.

As I walked along I declared that God is man's life and that no medical law has the power to deprive him of that life. I continued to know the truth, and went on with confidence that everything would be all right. When I called the hospital I was told that an ambulance could not be sent for two hours. I replied that I would call again if the ambulance was still needed.

I returned to the house and found my brother-in-law quite comfortable. He slept for about two hours, and on awakening he said that he was all right. In a short time a man came to the house to ask him to do some carpenter work, and he told the man that he would go the next morning to start it. My sister said that she did not think he should do physical labor so soon, but he said that he was perfectly well. He went to work the next day and missed no more time away from it. His healing has remained permanent ever since.

I am grateful to God for Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and for. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. For our Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly and for all of Mrs. Eddy's writings I cannot find words to express my gratitude.—(Mrs.) Lela B. Dobson, Phoenix, Arizona.
