Christian Science was presented...

Christian Science was presented to me during the severe influenza epidemic of 1918 after the doctor had told my parents that he had done all he could for me and that now we would have to try a higher power. Just one neighbor was brave enough to come to our home. She was a Christian Scientist.

After telling us about the healing power of God she asked if we would like to read some Christian Science literature. A Sentinel was lovingly given to us, and it was read from cover to cover during the week. I was completely healed, and the following Sunday my mother and I accompanied this neighbor to a service in a Christian Science church. I at once resumed my regular duties, and for thirty-four years I have had freedom and joy as a result of my turning wholeheartedly to God through Christian Science.

My son, who was born with the help of Christian Science, never experienced so-called children's diseases. He was blessed with the privilege of receiving his college degree from a school for the sons and daughters of Christian Scientists. He has been protected and guided every step of the way by adhering to the teachings received in the Christian Science Sunday School.

When we were greatly in need of a home we were divinely directed to a suitable one. At the time of my husband's passing, the children and I were lifted above the sense testimony of loss and separation. We knew that "man is immortal, and the body cannot die, because matter has no life to surrender" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 426). Words alone are but feeble agencies to convey the deep gratitude I have for our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy.—(Mrs.) Irma R. Weiler, Glendale, California.

In confirming the testimony of my mother I should like to speak particularly of that portion of it dealing with the overcoming of a sense of separation when my father passed on.

My mother and father enjoyed the most happy and complete married life that, it seems to me, is possible for anyone to have. Both were active Christian Scientists and members of The Mother Church and a branch church. Their experience together was one of harmony, consideration, and happiness. Consequently, my father's passing was no small matter for Mother to rise above. However, because of the many spiritual qualities expressed in their marriage, my mother was able to release the material sense of man and hold only to the spiritual concept of God's reflection. In this way she has recognized that all the good which was expressed by my father is ever present. This recognition is a constant source of strength to Mother in her work as a practitioner and as Second Reader in a branch church.
