I had the privilege of attending...

I had the privilege of attending a Christian Science Sunday School from the time I was a small child. However, when I reached my late teens and went to work I found that my associates were not interested in Christian Science, and I began to follow their way of living. Members of my immediate family passed on, and this left me feeling very disconsolate. Later I married, and before long I began again to study Christian Science earnestly. With the help of a practitioner the overcoming of the tobacco habit, together with the healing of a very sore throat and a cold, took place within three days.

One night I felt that I had broken some bones in my foot as the result of an accident. The thought came that by morning the foot would be swollen, but I corrected this suggestion, knowing that God's thoughts are the only reality and that they are good. Although there was no swelling in the morning, I could not stand up; so my husband drove me to a practitioner, helped me up the steps, and then returned to the car.

The practitioner quoted to me from Science and Health, in which Mrs. Eddy says (p. 14), "Entirely separate from the belief and dream of material living, is the Life divine, revealing spiritual understanding and the consciousness of man's dominion over the whole earth." After she had talked to me for some time about the activity of Truth she told me that if I wanted to I could walk to the car without calling my husband. I rose and stood on my foot with no pain. I started to walk with a slight limp, but she said, "Don't censure yourself by limping." I was immediately free and walked normally and painlessly.

However, after I reached home my fear of the condition returned. I sang Hymn No. 139 from the Christian Science Hymnal, which begins, "I walk with Love along the way." Then I gave thanks to God for the healing I knew had taken place, and within an hour I was free from fear. This was on Saturday, and on Sunday I went to church wearing high-heeled shoes. There was no further difficulty from my foot.

I am deeply grateful for the practitioners who have helped me and for the realization that once the seed of Truth has been planted in good ground it cannot go to waste. I am also grateful for Mrs. Eddy, who gave us this wonderful religion of Christian Science, and for membership in The Mother Church and in one of its branches.—(Mrs.) Jean Elizabeth Eaddy, Sanford, Florida.
