The Apostle Paul tells us (Rom. 12:2),...
The Apostle Paul tells us (Rom. 12:2), "Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." Through the study and application of Christian Science I have been able in a degree to follow his admonition.
About twenty-five years ago, when medical aid had failed to help me at a time of great physical weakness and nervous debility, Christian Science treatment was sought, and my healing gradually took place. During this period a passage from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy was a source of help and inspiration to me (p. 426): "The discoverer of Christian Science finds the path less difficult when she has the high goal always before her thoughts, than when she counts her footsteps in endeavoring to reach it. When the destination is desirable, expectation speeds our progress."
While this healing was taking place and in the years following it, many other difficulties were quickly healed. The smoking habit, social drinking, and gambling were overcome. Stomach ulcers, indigestion, acute neuritis, colds, ptomaine poisoning, and severe headaches were cured. Injuries sustained in handling livestock yielded to prayerful work, and other discords were entirely eliminated. Some of these healings came about through the loving help of practitioners, and others came through my own understanding and demonstration of the truth.
In business, too, I have been greatly helped. Some years before coming into Christian Science I had not been successful as a livestock auctioneer, and my license had been discontinued. After accepting the truth of spiritual being I was reappointed as an auctioneer and relicensed. Through the application of Christian Science I have been able to do this work successfully for the past twenty-four years. I have gained a more comprehensive outlook on life and an unselfed desire to give, resulting in greater success and unfoldment of good for myself and for others within the scope of my activities.
About nine years ago a false sense of responsibility, injustice, and personal animosity brought about a severe nervous breakdown. When this erroneous thinking was replaced with a clearer understanding of God's love for man and the endeavor to follow the teaching of the Master, Christ Jesus, to love my neighbor as myself, the healing took place.
Now, at an age of over threescore years, when prevalent belief considers man as on the wane regarding athletics, I play better golf than I did when much younger. This ability has been demonstrated by my knowing that man as God's likeness forever reflects calmness, poise, rhythm, serenity, and the untiring energy and inexhaustible strength of divine Principle. In addition I have been accepted as a first-class risk by a leading life insurance company.
Christian Science has given me confidence in God with which to meet all my problems. I am most grateful for a demonstrable understanding of Him and of man's relation to Him as His reflection. Also I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church, for participation in the activities of a branch church, and for the privilege of serving as a First Reader for three years.— George W. Sibbin, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
