HUMILITY

When our dear Master went about
and taught of heaven's glories,
he wove the simple country things
into his wondrous stories.

The mustard seed, the salt and meal,
the birds and meadow flowers,
were not too commonplace or small
to show God's love and power.

He did not choose the wise and great,
replete with worldly learning,
but called the lowly fishermen,
their purer thought discerning.

How clear the lesson shines for all
who would to greatness measure:
It is the humble, childlike heart
that wins the kingdom's treasure.
