It is my earnest desire to glorify...

It is my earnest desire to glorify God by means of this testimony. A clearer conviction of the availability of Christian Science in time of emergency was gained through the following experience.

A few hours after starting on an all-day train journey, I began to suffer from a pain in my side so severe that I found it hard to breathe. Having been a student of Christian Science for many years, I immediately turned to God for healing. The first thought that came to me was the necessity "to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord" (II Cor. 5:8). I saw that there must be a steadfast holding to the spiritual fact that man is an idea in Mind, entirely separate from the flesh and living where no pain can enter. This truth I declared over and over.

Finally, it seemed wise to retire to a rest room, and I did so. Then came the angel thought our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, has given us in Science and Health (Pref., p. vii), "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." This proved to be a strengthening thought, and as I reclined upon the couch a deep sense of gratitude for Love's provision of right ideas came to me.

Although many statements of truth were declared, the pain continued, and the suggestion came, "The first time the train stops you will be removed to a hospital." Instantly this suggestion was denied by spiritually correct reasoning. "You have said over and over you are an idea of Mind," I told myself. "How can an idea of Mind be taken to a hospital?" At this point I lapsed into unconsciousness and remained in that state about an hour. Upon opening my eyes I immediately realized that I was free from pain. So far as I know, no one had entered the room while I was there. Gratitude flooded my consciousness not only for the physical healing but for God's nearness, which was keenly felt in that quiet place, where it was possible to be alone with God.

This experience increased my faith in good and caused me to appreciate in a greater measure what Mrs. Eddy has done for the world. Had this testing time been presented under other circumstances, there is no doubt that I would have turned for help to another's understanding, rather than completely rely upon God through my own efforts.

I am grateful for the example of Christ Jesus and for daily opportunity to serve humanity in the way he showed us, and now made plain by our Leader.—(Mrs.) Claudia C. Sample, Muncie, Indiana.
