In 1921 I was suffering from a nervous breakdown and had sold my business interests to a partner at a considerable monetary loss. As I was telling my troubles to a friend he invited me to attend a Wednesday evening testimony meeting at a branch Church of Christ, Scientist.

I had no knowledge of Christian Science at that time and went along more out of curiosity than for any other reason. I was deeply impressed with the gratitude, humility, and love which were expressed at this meeting. The inscription on the wall interested me: "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 494). But it seemed to me that what I needed was money.

However, when I called on a Christian Science practitioner the next day, he very kindly told me it was not money I needed, but a change of thought. I needed to change my thoughts of greed, avarice, selfishness, and self-pity to thoughts of love, gratitude, and consideration for others. My healing of the nervous breakdown was slow, but it has been permanent. The financial difficulty was also overcome. A craving for alcohol and tobacco has been healed, as well as eczema of many years' standing.

The articles and testimonies in the Christian Science periodicals have been of inestimable help to me, and I am most sincerely grateful for the aid of consecrated practitioners, for class instruction, for membership in The Mother Church, and for the privilege of serving in a small way in a branch church. I am also grateful to God for our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, through whose teachings I was brought back to the Bible and the truth therein.—N. Peter Johnson, Sherman Oaks, California.
