I should like to give this testimony...
I should like to give this testimony in deep gratitude for the spiritual unfoldment that has come to me through the revelation of Christian Science, which our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, has given to the world.
About a year ago I noticed a small growth under one eye; but as it was not bothering me, I did not do anything about it at the time. Some months later I saw that the growth had become much larger, and I knew that I must get to work and know the truth about growth: that no erroneous thought can take root and grow in spiritual consciousness and that true growth is not accretion, a gathering together of matter, but that it is unfoldment. When I saw clearly that God's creation is complete and that nothing can be added to it, the healing came. The growth completely disappeared, and there has been no sign of it since.
Later I experienced a severe pneumonic trouble; but after my healing I felt more aware of the allness of good and so of course much happier than before. This experience was just another opportunity to prove again the love and power of the healing Christ. I cannot be grateful enough for the wonderful work of the Christian Science practitioner, who steadfastly affirmed the supremacy of Life when death seemed imminent.
Some years ago on my first day out of bed following a sickness I felt considerable weakness, my legs particularly being very shaky. During the morning my son, who had not known about my illness, telephoned that his wife and small child were coming to see me that afternoon, but as their baby carriage was too large to go on the bus, he would meet his wife and carry the babe up the hill before returning to his work. They duly arrived, and we spent a very pleasant afternoon without my daughter-in-law noticing anything out of the usual, for which I was very grateful.
When it was time to go she began to wonder how to get the child, who was quite heavy, to the bus. She remembered that a friend of hers, who lived in a flat below mine, had a baby carriage which she would probably lend her if I would bring it back up the hill. So far I had walked only a few yards, and I felt that it would be quite impossible for me to walk to the bus and then bring a heavy baby carriage up the hill, afterwards climbing a steep flight of stairs. However, I instantly denied this false suggestion, knowing that with God nothing is impossible and that I live and move in Him, not in a weak physical body.
A little later I was left with the carriage, and putting it behind me, I started off for home. Then a very wonderful thing happened. Suddenly I felt as if I were being gently propelled by an unseen force without any effort on my part. At one stage the feeling of being pushed was so insistent that I looked behind to see if the baby carriage was still there. I had nearly forgotten about it! This wonderful help continued all the way up the hill, and after I had returned the carriage to its owner it continued all the way up the stairs as well.
I am very grateful for these healings, but still more grateful for the increased spiritual understanding which has come with them, It is difficult to express sufficient gratitude for the continual everyday proofs of the love and power of our Father-Mother God and for the priceless gift of Christian Science, which has been revealed to us by our revered Leader. I am very grateful too for the privilege of membership in The Mother Church and a branch church and for class instruction, which is proving to be a great blessing.—(Mrs.) Jessie Brickell, Auckland, New Zealand.
