Although words are very inadequate...

Although words are very inadequate to express my deep gratitude for all the good which the understanding of Christian Science has brought to me, I wish to say that I am profoundly grateful for the provision made by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for the giving of testimonies in the periodicals. I can no longer delay submitting mine.

The Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, was given me to read at a time when I was undergoing a tremendous mental strain, as well as suffering from heart trouble. I read the book from cover to cover and loved it but did not at that time comprehend the true import of what I read. Later I put it away and turned to medical help. The following two years brought much sickness and misery, my physical condition eventually becoming so serious that a specialist told me nothing more could be done for me. I was forced to give up my work and went to live with an old school friend to wait for the end.

One afternoon after weeks of inactivity with a doctor in attendance I got out of bed and started to unpack my trunk. I shall never forget the wonderful feeling that came over me when I came upon the textbook: my whole being seemed to be flooded with radiance, warmth, and peace. A little more unpacking brought to light a copy of The Christian Science Journal. Upon perusal of it I found that a practitioner lived a few miles away; so I called her over the telephone. The loving reply to my call of distress I shall ever cherish, for she said, "My dear, there isn't a crooked road that God cannot make straight."

An appointment to see her was made, and after a wonderful talk with this dear woman I asked for Christian Science treatment. Upon my promise that I would give up all medical aid, work was begun in Christian Science, and I started earnestly to study the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly. When next the doctor visited me I thanked him for his help and care and asked him not to come any more. Within a very short time I was completely healed and able to work again.

That was over five years ago, and since then I have earnestly and humbly endeavored to gain more of the truth that healed me. Through my efforts more of the divine nature of God and the true heritage of man as God's reflection has been revealed to me. Christian Science has been my only help, comfort, and guide since that time. The many blessings and healings I have received are too numerous to mention. I am particularly grateful to realize that my two sons are in reality children of the one dear Father-Mother of us all. Our human relationship has consequently become beautiful and precious.

For membership in The Mother Church, for the sacred privilege of class instruction from a consecrated teacher, and for all the love and help I have received from practitioners, class associates, and my many friends I am truly grateful. My prayer is, May my daily living prove my gratitude to God for the wonderful teachings of our inspired Leader, who has revealed to mankind the truth that will liberate and heal the entire world.—(Mrs.) Edith M. Bugden, Yeovil, Somerset, England.
