For the daily unfoldment of good...
For the daily unfoldment of good in my experience through the study and application of Christian Science I am indeed most grateful.
I became interested in this Science through overhearing a conversation between two neighbors, one of whom was a Christian Scientist. I heard the Scientist tell of the healing of a relative of tuberculosis in its advanced stages, and I felt an irresistible urge to know more of this wonderful religion, which heals on the same basis that Jesus healed. Later I learned of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, which I immediately secured and began to study. I lived hourly with this book, carrying it about with me as I performed my household tasks and leading it long into the night. I pondered its every statement. A wonderful new world was unfolding to me, and how happy I was to learn of a God who is Love and who does not afflict His children!
I was under the care of a physician, and an operation was pending. I was also enduring great mental anguish because of the condition of our little daughter, who had had infantile paralysis at the age of one year. After having much medical treatment from both nerve and orthopedic specialists, we were informed that nothing more could be done for her and that she probably would never walk. Help from a Christian Science practitioner was asked for our baby, and treatment was lovingly taken up. Almost immediately improvement began. Growth was evident, and soon we were able to lay aside the heavy brace she had been wearing to strengthen her limb. Later she took her first steps, and soon she was leading a normal life, roller skating, swimming, and dancing.
This same child had had an operation on one ear for a mastoid condition. Shortly after we became interested in Christian Science this condition reappeared, and I called for Science help immediately. How lovingly the practitioner calmed my fears with this statement: "Surgeon's knives have never touched God's child." During the night the ear drained, and morning found the child playing as usual. Only one treatment was necessary for this healing, which has been permanent.
As to my condition, I dismissed the physician and have enjoyed the best of health for over twenty-six years. I was so absorbed in our daughter's progress that my own need was forgotten, and when next I remembered the difficulty, it had disappeared.
Other members of our family have been helped by this healing truth. My husband was healed of headaches for which the doctors could find no cure. Other physical ills, including so-called children's diseases, have been healed. Some of these healings have been almost instantaneous, while others have required more diligent and consecrated study. But each has been a steppingstone along the way from sense to Soul, and much growth Spiritward has been experienced with the overcoming of each problem. We have had much protection through the application of this truth, and we were also most beautifully cared for during a period of unemployment. It seemed as if the very ravens fed us, so miraculously were we provided for at times.
I am very grateful to God for the loving practitioners who stand so ready to help when called.—(Mrs.) Bertha E. Clark, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
