Throughout the many years I...
Throughout the many years I have been a student of Christian Science, I have been most grateful for the testimonies printed in the Christian Science periodicals. They have been an inspiration and staff to lean upon when the way has seemed difficult, and I have rejoiced again and again for the privilege of reading them.
I was introduced to Christian Science as a girl through a healing of my grandfather of a diseased condition which seemed incurable, resulting from his service in the Civil War. My searching thought was ready for the truth as taught in Christian Science, for I had become dissatisfied with the teachings of an orthodox Sunday School, where my questions were not satisfactorily answered.
I found opposition to Christian Science in my immediate family; but gradually, through my own study, I gained courage enough to insist that I be permitted to attend the Christian Science Sunday School. The privilege was granted, provided I continued with the orthodox Sunday School as well. As I gained some understanding of Christian Science, I found my position as a student in another Sunday School quite impossible, as the truths of Christian Science which
I was bringing into the other class were causing much controversy. When my parents found that I was seriously interested in this teaching and would not give it up, they were agreeable to my leaving the other church, and I attended the Christian Science Sunday School regularly for the short time until I became twenty. Then, although I had no co-operation at home, I continued attending church and studying by myself.
During this period I had several outstanding healings, among which was one of tonsillitis, which I was able to accomplish by my own work, not then knowing a practitioner; influenza was healed with the help of a treatment from a practitioner, and I lost no time from school; and a severe case of food poisoning was met quickly with one Christian Science treatment.
When I married and came west to live, I found other opposition to Christian Science, but I continued to keep at it in what time I could arrange to study. At the birth of a daughter the power of Christian Science was so conclusively proved that this Science became the most important thing to me. I had witnessed a life saved!
We had many demonstrations of healings of trials and sicknesses during the childhood of our daughter and always held to the healing power of Christian Science. Many wonderful healings have taken place, some quickly and some more slowly as lessons were learned, but a healing always followed. Even the memory of most of our more difficult experiences has been healed. We have learned many important lessons by depending upon God and relying upon His care always.
We are, of course, most grateful to Mary Baker Eddy for her great love for mankind in giving to the world this Science in a form practical for daily living. I do not know how I could get along without it, and my desire is to prove more of the truth each day so I can be of help to others. I am grateful for membership and service in a branch church and for class instructions.—(Mrs.) GRACE RUSSELL GRAY, Seattle, Washington.
