I am so grateful for the joy,...

I am so grateful for the joy, happiness, peace, and healing that Christian Science is constantly bringing to us and to other Christian Scientists in many parts of the world. Over and over again Truth has been proved to be the only power, until I wonder that we ever have a fear or a doubt that all is well.

I am especially thankful for the protection we have had, and that our two children have never taken medicine, but have always relied upon God, who is our ever-present help. Consequently they were spared the so-called children's diseases almost entirely. Once when he was a small boy, our son was healed of a sore throat and headache when a Christian Science lecture was being broadcast. My husband and I were listening so intently to the truth which was being expressed that we forgot all about the child's illness, and the first thing we knew the boy was up playing, completely healed.

I have always been so glad that both my husband and I were able to attend a Christian Science Sunday School, if only for a comparatively short time, and that we had a teacher who was especially consecrated, and who taught us the truth, which has never ceased to be helpful. In the last thirty-five years we have had many headings, some of minor ailments and some of more serious ones. I had been subject to tonsillitis every winter, and though this seemed very persistent, its unreality was finally proved. We have also had healings of mumps, a ride wound, paralysis, and other physical troubles, none of which were ever diagnosed.

I am especially grateful for one such healing which occurred about fourteen years ago. One Monday at our store I was suddenly taken with a pain in my back so severe that I fell to the floor; I got up and paced the floor, crying and declaring the truth. My husband called a practitioner, and soon the intense pain was gone, but I was unable to walk or to do my work. I was taken from the store to our home not far away. Although I studied and had help from a practitioner, still I was unable to attend the Wednesday evening testimony meeting. When Saturday came I was still in bed, but would get up and do everything I could, declaring the truth all the time. I kept knowing that nothing could keep me from teaching my Sunday School class the next day.

While I was wondering what it was that was keeping me from being healed, I read an article on Christian Science in an old pamphlet. It stated that Paul's understanding did not keep the viper from fastening on his hand, but it enabled him to shake it off into the fire; that Daniel's understanding did not keep him from being thrown into the lions' den, but it enabled him to come out unharmed; that John's understanding did not keep him from being exiled on Patmos, but there he wrote the Revelation. So I concluded that I needed to stop wondering, and instead to fill my consciousness with thanksgiving to God. At this time too I gained my first clear glimpse of what is meant by Mrs. Eddy's words, "Life is God." I fell asleep, and when I awakened I felt such inspiration and freedom that I was able to go back to our store with a practitioner friend, who had come to the house, and to walk some distance to her car. The next day I climbed the steps to the hall on the second floor where our church was held and taught my Sunday School class as usual. This healing uplifted my consciousness so much that it was years before the children, my husband, or I spent a day in bed, and then healing was speedily brought about.

Two years later I was enabled to take class instruction, an experience which my husband and I had the joy of sharing. I pray that I may be able to pass on to others some of the inspiration and confidence that I have gained in Christian Science. I am increasingly grateful, not only to God, to Christ Jesus, and to Mary Baker Eddy, but to all those who have helped us on our way from sense to Soul.— (Mrs.) Lina Zook Zentner, Liberty, Missouri.
