A neighbor brought me a Christian Science periodical with the request that I read it to her. As I read I saw the truth that man is spiritual, and not material, as I had thought. Immediately I became interested in this Science, and I accepted an invitation of a neighbor to attend a Christian Science church service. I gave close attention to the Lesson-sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly. It was all so new to me, however, that I did not understand very much of what was read, but I was impressed by one of the Bible citations, and that night I kept thinking about it. All at once I became very joyful, and the next morning I noticed that the arthritic knots which I had been suffering from had vanished.

In the years that have followed I have had many healings. One day while I was gardening, a thorn became embedded in my finger and inflammation developed. By the time I became aware of the condition, over half of the fingernail was infected. At that time I still understood very little of the truth, but I had learned "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468), and I saw that I, as in reality the manifestation of God, could not have a sick finger. I forgot about the finger for quite a while, but some hours later I noticed that the inflammation was gone and the finger was completely normal.

At one time a large splinter of wood flew into my mouth, causing bleeding and much pain. The realization of the truth taught by Christian Science that accidents are not known to God reduced the error to its native nothingness, and I was able to continue with my work. I owe much gratitude to our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for her great work in establishing the Christian Science movement.
