About thirty-two years ago my...
About thirty-two years ago my husband was told by two of the leading physicians in the state where we were living at the time that unless he had an immediate operation he would permanently lose his voice and his hearing. He had not been able to speak for a long time. We knew very little about Christian Science, but called upon a practitioner for help, and my husband was quickly healed.
Mrs. Eddy tells us in Science and Health (p. 207): "There is but one primal cause. Therefore there can be no effect from any other cause, and there can be no reality in aught which does not proceed from this great and only cause." This truth has helped me many times, and I have had many wonderful demonstrations during my study of Christian Science.
To mortal sense many of the physical healings which I have experienced seemed miraculous. One was of the effects of a blow on my head. I was kneeling down, and as I raised my head, I struck it forcibly on the edge of the door. The pain seemed more than I could endure. I called a practitioner, and he told me to be quiet and to let him do the work. Being quiet was something I thought I could not do, but soon I was asleep, and when I awakened I was perfectly well. There was no return of the pain.
At a time when I was suffering from a heart condition, little hope was given my husband for my recovery. I was unconscious for four days. The healing was slow, and I had to learn to walk again; but during this experience, through the work done for me in Christian Science, much impatience and a false sense of responsibility were overcome, and I learned how to love my neighbor. This statement of Mrs. Eddy's in Science and Health was very helpful (p. 393): "Take possession of your body, and govern its feeling and action. Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man."
I am grateful indeed for the patient practitioners who have helped me, and for the loving Christian Science nurse who attended me. I am also grateful for the healings of a toxic thyroid gland and of arthritis.—(Mrs.) Edna Earle Coleman, Beverly Hills, California.
I should like to verify my wife's statements regarding her healing, and to express my thankfulness for Christian Science and for the numerous other healings we have had.
