I have had many healings in...
I have had many healings in Christian Science. Some of these are healings of colds, influenza, severe headaches, poisoning, acute indigestion which had grown very severe, rheumatism, and sprained ankles. Christian Science has given me an entirely new viewpoint on life, and a better disposition has resulted. These healings encouraged me to push onward. We, as a family, have been greatly helped when loved ones have passed on.
As a young woman I developed a distressing skin condition. It would appear in the wintertime and looked so very bad that I dreaded going to church or appearing in public. The healing was a slow one, but it finally came. During that time I had to do more studying of the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings than I perhaps would have done, and it was good for me.
We have had healings of lack and have found comfortable homes when they were needed. One healing that stands out to me was of prejudice against Mrs. Eddy. Upon our first trip to Boston my husband and I went through the Original Mother Church, the Extension, and the Christian Science Publishing House. It dawned upon me what a really wonderful woman Mrs. Eddy was. Since then I have had nothing but the deepest love and respect for our Leader. I am also grateful for a stay of a few days at the Christian Science Benevolent Association Sanatorium in Chestnut Hill at that time and a longer one some years later. The love and kindness shown each guest is something I always shall remember.
A later healing was of something that I think would be called a tumor; it took much work on the part of a dear practitioner and much study on my part. Discouragement had to be overcome several times before the healing came. I wish to express my deep gratitude for our sincere and faithful practitioners. They are doing the most wonderful work in this world.
While it seems I still have much to overcome in my thinking, I know it is just the putting off of the old man and the putting on of the new, as Paul says in Ephesians (4:22, 24). I am also beginning to understand what our Leader means when she says (Science and Health, p. 66), "Trials are proofs of God's care." For if these trials force us to learn more about God and His love for us, are they not a blessing? "To be learning to walk with God is a most satisfying experience.—(Mrs.) Julia C. Ginzel, Wichita, Kansas.
