It is with heartfelt gratitude that I submit this testimony to the healing in power of Christian Science. I first became acquainted with this Science in England during World War I through a friend who is a Christian Scientist and whom I admired.

While I did not take up the study of Science at that time for the healing of a physical condition, still I noticed that a difficulty which had been bothering me for quite some time entirely disappeared through my interest in this subject, without my giving any thought to the problem or having Christian Science treatment. On two other occasions I have been healed without having specific work done: once when after a medical examination I was informed I had a tumor which would eventually have to be removed by an operation, and at another time when I had all the symptoms, according to a medical diagnosis, of gallstones. I had by that time be come quite interested in the study of Christian Science, and I was entirely without fear of the doctor's verdict.

I never had another attack of the gall bladder trouble, and the tumor also disappeared. I had to prove, however, the latter part of Mrs. Eddy's statement on page 449 of Science and Health, where she says "A grain of Christian Science does wonders for mortals, so omnipotent is Truth, but more of Christian Science must be gained in order to continue in well doing."

Soon after my introduction to Christian Science, I married and moved with my husband to a farm in a rather remote part of the prairie in western Canada. I had previously lived a few miles outside of London, England. However, because of my study of Christian Science and the Science literature, which came quite regularly to our home, I was never homesick or lonely. My life was full and harmonious. I was beautifully sustained through Christian Science when our little two-year-old son suddenly passed on. My husband expressed his gratitude for the strength I manifested at this time.

At another time our little three-year-old daughter's eye was badly injured. At my husband's request I took the child to a specialist. Upon examining the child, the specialist said he thought the eye should be removed. However, I begged him to postpone the operation for a few days, reminding him that miracles do happen even in this day and age, and feeling in my own heart that God could and would heal our child.

After two or three days, when the specialist said there was no change in the condition, I wired my brother who was in New York and asked him to get in touch with a practitioner. Almost immediately there was a decided change for the better, and quite soon the specialist telephoned to say that I could take the child home. He could not understand the child's healing and said that it was certainly not due to anything he had done. Also the matron and nurses at the hospital to which the child had been confined, remarked on the happiness of the patient, the serenity of the mother, and above all, the remarkable healing. At this time nearly twenty-five years later, it is impossible to tell which eye was injured.

Through the work of a practitioner a daughter was quickly healed of influenza. One day she was suffering great distress from all the symptoms of that complaint, and the following day she was up and able to walk ten blocks to college in sub-zero weather with no ill effects. Another daughter, while attending school away from home, came down with all the symptoms of scarlet fever, which was prevalent in the city at that time. This too was overcome quickly through the work of a practitioner.

I am very grateful for my husband's protection during continual crossings of the Atlantic in World War II for a period of about four years, also for the fact that his adjutant, who was his dose companion, was a Christian Scientist.

I am indeed grateful to God and to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for these and many other blessings which have been mine through Christian Science. I am also grateful for the friend through whose exemplary life I was attracted to this Science. —(Mrs.) Flora Howard, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Although I am not a member of the Church of Christ, Scientist, I should like to vouch for the sincerity of the healings mentioned by my wife in the foregoing testimony, and to add my appreciation for what this Science has done for our family —for the comparative freedom from accidents and sickness and for the hallowing influence it has had on our household.—Lt. Col. Gordon Scott Howard.
