I am deeply grateful for the unwavering faith of my mother, who took a radical stand for Christian Science many years ago in the face of strong opposition from family and friends. Because of her example, I withdrew from an orthodox church during my high school years and began attending a Christian Science Sunday School and church twenty miles away. Due to the protective influence of the truths learned there, normal health was maintained throughout the years, and so most of my demonstrations in Christian Science had to do with guidance in human affairs, with correcting faults of disposition and character, and with protection from accidents. During college, spiritual growth came from helping to establish and from reading in a Christian Science Organization and from teaching in the local Christian Science Sunday School. When I was seeking work after graduation, the thought of a practitioner, "The job that you need, needs you; the place, that you are seeking, is seeking you," helped me locate exactly the right position at a time when jobs seemed scarce.

My husband was beautifully sustained and protected during four years in the service, and at the frequent times when we were able to be together, transportation, housing, and supply were always readily worked out. Before the birth of our daughter, many Bible verses and references from Mrs. Eddy's writings were joyfully studied. The delivery was so quick and harmonious that none of the attendants could believe that this was my first child. Words cannot express my gratitude for the peace and freedom that Christian Science brings young parents.

When our daughter was only a few weeks old, she fell from her bassinet, seriously disfiguring her head. A friend whom I called assured me that the child could in reality be nowhere but in the everlasting arms. I kept a bonnet over the disfigurement so it would not be apparent to guests in our home. The next morning, after studying the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, I removed the bonnet and saw that the healing was complete. Many times afterwards, visitors remarked on the child's beautifully shaped head.
