When I first became interested in...
When I first became interested in Christian Science, the statement in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 494), "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need," was comforting to me. I clung to it many, many times, and it brought healing. As I read and studied the Bible and Science and Health, I gained a clearer understanding of divine Love. I am grateful beyond words for the writings of our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, which, when studied and used, bring us closer to Truth.
At one time while I was attending a Christian Science lecture, I received a proof of the healing power of Christian Science. For months, at intervals, I had had severe pains in my legs; some nights I would awaken and the pain would be excruciating. I was in distress at the lecture and was rebuking myself for not having asked help of a Christian Science practitioner, when I heard the lecturer say, "No doubt there are some in the audience who have come here for healing," and he brought out that this was one of the purposes of the lecture. I listened to the lecture intently, and although I do not know at what moment the healing message entered my consciousness, I never again had a recurrence of the pain in my legs. This healing took place over nine years ago.
At one time when I had an important decision to make, the word light kept coming to me. I looked up and studied the references on this word in the Concordances to the Bible and to Mrs. Eddy's writings until one reference stood out to me. It was the means of meeting my need.
I have had numerous other healings through Christian Science, and I am grateful for them and for a clearer conception of Love. I am also grateful for the lecturers, for the practitioners, for our periodicals, including The Christian Science Monitor, for our weekly Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly, and for class instruction. —(Mrs.) Vera Hyland Mueller, Salem, Oregon.
