WHITE ALREADY TO HARVEST

(John 4:35)

"Lift up your eyes," the Master said.
With downcast, earth-bound eyes
All they could see
Was immaturity:
All they could know—
The wheat had yet four months to grow.

Remember how he brake, and fed
Five thousand with, five loaves of bread.
No summer sun, nor soil, nor rain,
Combined to germinate that grain
Or ripen it for harvest gain.

Lift up your eyes! High is the goal!
With heightened vision then behold
Fields "white already to harvest"—
Unlabored, manifold.
