For many years I have been...
For many years I have been blessed through my study of Christian Science, and I am grateful for the training I received in a Christian Science Sunday School. Now I have children attending the Sunday School, and we rely wholly upon Christian Science for help. Each one of us has experienced many beautiful healings. Some have been the result of our own work; others have come through the loving and faithful help of practitioners.
I think one of the most outstanding physical healings I have ever witnessed took place a little over a year ago. My young daughter fell on the ice while skating and skinned her elbow. It looked like a slight injury at the time, but it did not heal and manifested a secondary infection. A couple of weeks later a small lump appeared on the underside of the arm above the elbow. A carbuncle developed, and knowing the medical beliefs regarding carbuncles, I became fearful and so sought help of a practitioner.
The healing seemed slow, and there were times when the child suffered almost unbearable pain. At these times we read continuously throughout the night from the Bible and from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. The child missed only a very few days of school and was so sustained that her friends did not know she was having this experience. Later the swelling came to a head and broke.
There still was work to be done, however, for the joint was left stiff and hard. The practitioner then reminded us that love was the softening agent. We were grateful for this reminder and earnestly tried to love more. On page 162 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy states: "Christian Science brings to the body the sunlight of Truth, which invigorates and purifies. Christian Science acts as an alternative, neutralizing error with Truth. It changes the secretions, expels humors, dissolves tumors, relaxes rigid muscles, restores carious bones to soundness." Little by little the muscles did relax, and when the healing was complete no scar or stiffness remained.
My heart is full of gratitude to Mrs. Eddy, who discovered and gave us Christian Science, and to all the practitioners, who give so generously of their time. I am grateful, too, for all the activities of The Mother Church as prescribed by her in the Church Manual.—(Mrs.) Uintah M. Johnson, Los Angeles, California.
