I have received many healings in...

I have received many healings in Christian Science, and I want to express my gratitude for every avenue and channel through which this truth is going out to the world today.

I have been healed while attending the church services and lectures; also while studying the weekly Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly, in the quietness of the Reading Rooms, and by reading the periodicals and hymns.

Years ago, when I first took up the study of Christian Science, I was awakened in the night with a toothache. My first thought was, What am I to do about this? I knew if I got up it would disturb others. Just then this verse from the Bible came to me (John 1:3): "All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made." Then I thought, God certainly did not make a toothache. The pain ceased immediately, and while pondering this message I fell asleep and awakened in the morning entirely free.

All through the years since that time I have not experienced pain with my teeth until a year or so ago. I awakened one Saturday morning with a very sensitive front tooth. I decided I must have hit it in the night with my hand. I went about my duties feeling sure the condition would clear up, but by the afternoon I was very uncomfortable. I studied several hours that evening and was able to serve in the Sunday School the next morning. In the afternoon the pain was so severe that I called the dentist's office, but got no answer. I worked as best I knew how and decided to reach him the first thing on Monday morning.

At this time I was led to study the chapter entitled "Christian Science Practice" in our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and I came to this statement on page 414: "Keep in mind the verity of being,—that man is the image and likeness of God, in whom all being is painless and permanent." I accepted this statement as the truth in my situation, and the pain ceased, and I had a good night's rest. In the morning the swelling had gone from my face. I went to work and called for an appointment with the dentist in my lunch hour. Upon examination he told me that a boil had formed in my gums, but had broken and was draining around the tooth, which was loose. He said he would rather not disturb the work which was being done and asked me to come back in a few days, which I did. The condition was much improved, and he said he would do nothing for a few days.

In the meantime pain started again, and in studying the same statement mentioned above, I found that I had accepted only a part of it—that being is painless—but now I was ready to accept every word of it and prove that man's being is permanent. After a while I felt a discharge around that tooth, and I knew the healing was complete. The tooth became firm and useful again. This is just another proof of the healing truth contained in our textbook.

I am humbly grateful for some understanding of the power and presence of the Word. Through my daily study of Christian Science I am in some degree enjoying the fruits of right thinking. Here I want to express humble gratitude for divine guidance and protection, for the great privilege of serving in the Sunday School, and for class instruction.—(Mrs.) Mary Royer Petty, Houston, Texas.
