GRATITUDE SINGS AND SOARS

"What is gratitude but a powerful camera obscura, a thing focusing light where love, memory, and all within the human heart is present to manifest light." In this enlightening way Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, describes gratitude, a divine quality (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 164).

At a time of individual stress or universal upheaval of any nature gratitude expressed in prayer and song is a definite means of healing and blesses one and all. In their wilderness experience the children of Israel complained because of their many discomforts and lack. Moses, their great leader, comforted them and sang hymns of praise to God, so confident was he that God is the source and strength of man.

No fear is present in a consciousness filled with gratitude for God's loving care. Though faced with crucifixion, the Master's heart was filled with love and gratitude. He was assured of the falsity of life in matter and of man's unity with God, which he taught, the demonstration of which would complete his mission. In the fullness of his humility and love he and his disciples sang a hymn of glory and praise to their Father-Mother God, the sole creator of man.
