Some years ago a small boy came...

Some years ago a small boy came to make his home with us. He had been entered in the Christian Science Sunday School and always attended there, although we were members of and active in a church of another denomination. When this child was barely able to read, he would come in from his play, get the Bible or "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, read for a while, and then run out to play again without a word to anyone. It was wonderful to us that he had been taught to know just where to find that which would meet his need.

Our daughter grew up loving this boy because of all the love and good he expressed, and our family took up the study of Christian Science. When she was a small girl, she awakened one night crying because of pain in her ear and asked that I read "the book" to her, meaning Science and Health. I read for about forty-five minutes, at the end of which time the gathering broke and drained. We wept with gratitude for this quick healing, for she had had a similar experience with her ear previously without Christian Science help and had lain for weeks in a high temperature.

At the time the above-mentioned boy was released from the armed services he expressed apprehension as to whether or not he would be able to enter college, find a place to live, and secure work, because of the prevalent belief that colleges were overcrowded and that there were insufficient housing facilities. We held to the truths that man is always in his right place in divine Mind and that he always has employment in the only real business, that of expressing God. Within three days of his arrival in the city where the university is located he wrote that he had a lovely place to live, was registered in school, and had part-time work in the line in which he was studying.

When a baby was to be born in the family, physicians said a normal birth would be impossible, but by our holding to the following truths as set forth by Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health (p. 463), "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive," and (p. 283), "Mind is the source of all movement, and there is no inertia to retard or check its perpetual and harmonious action," the baby was born normally. We also realized that man as spiritual idea is subject only to the laws of God, good, and that birth is spiritual unfoldment.

I am grateful for the protection and peace, for the understanding of God and of man in His image and likeness, and for the complete regeneration of thought which come through the study and application of Christian Science. I am also grateful for Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, for all the activities of The Mother Church and the branch churches, and for the privilege of serving in a branch church.

Class instruction has brought into my experience a deeper appreciation of the revelation of Christian Science and its revelator, Mrs. Eddy.—(Mrs.) Loreen A. McCague, Omaha, Nebraska.
