Church Membership and Its Present Possibilities

A woman who had known of Christian Science for thirty-five years and had had many proofs of its blessings applied for membership in a Christian Science church. She was asked why she had waited so long before applying. Her reply was that she had never got around to it. Like others perhaps, she had allowed procrastination to govern her, thus depriving herself of the blessings of church membership.

In her sermon "Christian Healing" Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 19), "Tireless Being, patient of man's procrastination, affords him fresh opportunities every hour;" and later she adds, "But let us work more earnestly in His vineyard, and according to the model on the mount, bearing the cross meekly along the rugged way, into the wilderness, up the steep ascent, on to heaven, making our words golden rays in the sunlight of our deeds."

Applicants who are ready for membership in The Mother Church in accordance with the Church Manual requirements are admitted twice each year to membership by The Christian Science Board of Directors. The next date for the admission of members is November 4, 1949, but applications must reach the Clerk on or before October 3, 1949. However, to allow time for possible correspondence, applications and questionnaires should be forwarded without delay.

Application blanks and information concerning membership may be obtained from Christian Science Reading Rooms, from practitioners listed in The Christian Science Journal, or from clerks of branch churches and societies. Applications may also be obtained from Gordon V. Comer, Clerk, 107 Falmouth Street, Boston 15, Massachusetts.
