Home securely established. Educational needs met

The one guiding, strengthening, uplifting influence which has governed my life since childhood has been and is Christian Science.

I am grateful that my mother was receptive to this truth when I was a small child. I started attending a Christian Science Sunday School when I was about four years of age. Many times during those precious Sunday School hours some great truth dawned with sudden clarity, and I went away rejoicing in my new-found understanding. The trials, heartaches, and disappointments which seem to come with what mortal mind calls "growing up," I met with absolute conviction that Christian Science would show me the way to solve them, and it always did.

The supreme test came when my mother passed on, and we were forced to give up our home. As our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, says in the textbook, Science and Health (p. 574), "The very circumstance, which your suffering sense deems wrathful and afflictive, Love can make an angel entertained unawares." This was proved true, for when I turned implicity to the truth which Christian Science teaches us, I could perceive more clearly that man never dies because Life is eternal, and that God is indeed our only real Mother. I learned, too, in a measure, that the only home I have is in consciousness, where God, good, is ever present.

The following month I went off to college and, even though it was in the midst of the depression, and to mortal sense there was not sufficient supply, I was able to obtain one position after another in order to pay my expenses and complete my college course. The words of the Psalmist, "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want," and the arresting passage in Science and Health (p. 135), "'Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?' What cannot God do?" were the inspiration of those years of demonstration. The culmination of this demonstration came in my obtaining a teaching position when I was told repeatedly that there was no chance. By holding to the fact that man can never to deprived of his rightful employment of reflecting God, I saw the right and human manifestation brought about.

I grew up in almost perfect health, due to the application of Christian Science and the protection which it affords. However, two outstanding physical healings have occurred during recent years. One was a healing of asthma which came through the reading of Science and Health. When I came to the passage (p. 227), "Citizens of the world, accept the 'glorious liberty of the children of God,' and be free! This is your divine right," I knew I was healed, and I have not had a touch of the trouble since.

The other was a healing of what materia medica calls milk leg. This developed after the birth of our first child. With the consecrated help of a practitioner, this healing was accomplished in a short time.

For the opportunity to serve in the church organization, to have my children in the Christian Science Sunday School, to have had the inestimable privilege of class instruction, I am humbly and sincerely grateful. My heart overflows with gratitude for Christian Science and for our beloved Leader.—(Mrs.) Lydia Luck Haupt, Anchorage, Kentucky.
