Announcement
Trustees under the Will of Mary Baker Eddy
The Trustees under the Will of Mary Baker Eddy announce the appointment of Horace J. Carver, C. S., of Brookline, Massachusetts, to fill the vacancy in the position of Publishers' Agent, due to the passing on of Hudson G. Burr, C. S., of Brookline, on April 19, 1949.
The responsibilities of the position of Publishers' Agent include the printing, binding, and publication of the published works of Mary Baker Eddy and their sale throughout the world.
Mr. Carver is a native of Racine, Wisconsin, and received his education in the schools of that state. Following his graduation from the University of Wisconsin, where he received the degree of A. B., he became sales manager of a textile company in the Middle West. Later he removed to New York, where for ten years he was with an advertising research organization, serving as its eastern manager and vice-president.
Shortly after graduating from college, Mr. Carver became interested in Christian Science. He became a member of a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and in 1925 joined The Mother Church. In 1927 he received Primary class instruction. While still engaged in business he gave part of his time to the practice of Christian Science healing, and in 1945 began to devote his entire time to this work.
Mr. Carver is now a member of Third Church of Christ, Scientist, New York City, which he has served as a member of its board of directors and superintendent of its Sunday School.
Mr. Carver came to Boston to serve as Manager of the Service and Sales Department of the office of the Publishers' Agent, where he has been employed since October, 1948.
Hudson C. Burr, C. S., was well known for his long and faithful service to our movement in many capacities. In 1926 he joined the advertising staff of The Christian Science Monitor in New York City and two years later came to Boston as manager of national advertising for the Monitor. From August 1, 1939, to September 18, 1942, he served as Publishers' Agent for the Trustees under the Will. He was then elected a Trustee of The Christian Science Publishing Society and filled this office until April, 1947, when he was reappointed Publishers' Agent, which office he filled until his passing. During these many years he had the love and appreciation of the Field.

Why Are Church Membership and Church Organization Necessary?
A member who had been through a period of darkness and distress wrote, "I would have died had it not been for the church services, the Reading Rooms, and our periodicals, and except for the church organization as provided for in the Manual of The Mother Church these things would not be available to us."
This member has had proof of the great value to him of church membership and of the component activities of the Church of Christ, Scientist.
Application blanks and information concerning membership may be obtained at Christian Science Reading Rooms, from practitioners listed in The Christian Science Journal, or from clerks of branch churches and societies. Applications may also be obtained from Gordon V. Comer, Clerk, 107 Falmouth Street, Boston 15, Massachusetts.
