Healing of burns overcomes prejudice

Jesus said (Matt. 11:28), "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Christian Science has fulfilled this promise of our Master in my experience by giving me health, happiness, freedom from bondage to material so-called laws, and true rest and peace for over thirty years.

When Christian Science was first mentioned to me. I thought I would be the last person in the world to accept its teachings, since I had been brought up in a very strict orthodox home where Christian Science and the name of Mary Baker Eddy were not allowed to be mentioned.

About four years after our marriage, when my husband began the study of Christian Science for physical healing, I was still very much prejudiced against what I thought this religion was. However, a year after he had received a wonderful healing through this truth, I incurred severe burns one morning while preparing breakfast. I was in such pain that I was willing to reach out for any remedy to gain relief. So when my husband wanted to read to me from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I consented. In half an hour all pain had gone, and I was again attending to my usual household duties. This healing was complete, with no scars.

All my prejudice against Christian Science and Mrs. Eddy then vanished in gratitude for my healing, and I began to study this wonderful truth which had healed me. I started to attend the Christian Science church services; and in due time we became members of the church and our children were enrolled in the Sunday School. As a united family we all studied and progressed, receiving many healings and blessings through our understanding of Christian Science. The wonderful privilege of raising our two children with the help of Science was a great joy and comfort to us as parents.

One outstanding healing in my early study of Christian Science was that of inflammatory rheumatism through the help of a practitioner. I was in severe pain and for about a week was unable to walk. By holding persistently to the truth that matter has no sensation or power over God's spiritual idea, but is unreal, I was healed and joyously resumed my usual activities.

I have also been healed of great fear that seemed paralyzing in its effect mentally and physically. I was able, through the helpful and comforting statements of a practitioner, to gain my dominion and freedom as a child of God. Through this healing I realized the joy of overcoming and experienced a great sense of love for my fellow man. I have also gained the stability of right thinking, and each day brings much harmony in our home and deep joy in working in the vineyard of Truth.
