In 1929 I learned of Christian Science through an acquaintance. I was weighed down with grief and was particularly grateful for the comfort Christian Science offers. I grew quieter and looked upon the future with more confidence.

One day I was taken seriously ill. I had severe pains in my head and could not retain any food. In a few days my mother, being fearful, called a doctor, who could not diagnose the case. My condition kept getting much worse, and the doctor could not help me.

Then my mother asked a Christian Science practitioner with whom we had become acquainted at the church services for help. He came and began to work for me at once. When he said good-by, he added, "As far as I am concerned, you may get up and eat whatever there is to eat." That was early in the afternoon. I fell asleep immediately; and on awakening from a deep and peaceful sleep, I felt wonderfully refreshed and as though something terrible had dropped from me. The sense of dizziness had gone; above all, the pains in my head had completely disappeared, and I could sit up alone. A few hours later I ate a good meal and was able to retain it. The next day I was strong enough to get up and go to my place of business for a short time.

Our whole circle of friends was so amazed at this wonderfully quick healing that many of them took up Christian Science.

For this healing and for many other blessings brought about through the infinite power of God, divine Love, I am sincerely grateful. I am also grateful to Mary Baker Eddy, who brought this religion to mankind. I should like to add my testimony to that of my wife.

Since 1942 I had suffered from severe pains in the stomach, often accompanied by nausea. At first I tried taking pills and powders, but the pain was alleviated only for a few hours. Later on, the pains became so severe that I had to call a doctor. He diagnosed the case as stomach ulcer. In the course of three years I consulted three physicians without receiving any help. My suffering grew so much worse that I lost all joy in life. Because of persistent nausea I could not attend a theater or any other gathering. Mentally I had so little resistance that I would have welcomed death. The woman physician who treated me finally, advised an operation, to which I gave my consent.

However, because the portals of Christian Science had again been opened for the German people, my wife advised me to ask a practitioner for help. She found the practitioner again who had so frequently extended to her a helping hand and described my case to him. He at once promised to work for me. It was on a Sunday, and we had been invited to dine with my sister. I was much depressed, for I was just getting over another attack of pain. But on this day I was able to eat the meal without being nauseated, something that had not happened for months. Gratefully I realized that this was the result of the work of the Christian Scientist, and I immediately discontinued taking medicine. For two weeks the attacks of pain grew less and less, and during the third week I was completely freed from the difficulty. My carriage became more erect, my step more elastic, my eyes were happier, and I was again an individual who found work and life a joy.
