From the time I was eight years old until I was twenty-one I had a stomach ailment which a doctor told me came from an inherited nervous trouble.

About the year 1898 I had become so sickly that I wished to die if I could not get well soon. At that time I was told of a Christian Science practitioner, living a mile or so from my home, who had healed a man of Bright's disease after he had been given but three days to live. I went to see her and had her start treatment that same evening, after she had assured me that it is God who does the work. She said her only prescription was for me to read the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, for an hour or more each day.

I bought the textbook and read it all my spare time, even on streetcar trips. In three days I was so greatly relieved that I ate any food I wanted without ill effects. Headaches and biliousness were soon overcome, and my complete healing of the stomach ailment came. I have since had a healing of blood poisoning in my arm. Influenza yielded to Christian Science treatment, also other ills.

My mother took up the study of Christian Science and was healed of two cancers by the work of a practitioner. She lived to the age of ninety-four, up to ninety doing useful work with her needle.
