I have been so greatly benefited by Christian Science and by the utilization of its teachings that I wish to express my gratitude to God for the privilege of being a student of this Science.

I am particularly grateful for the entireness and ever-presence of God, good, which were proved to me under bombing attacks during my service in several parts of the world as a merchant marine during the war. At one time in the early days of the Philippine campaign, a bomb was dropped on our ship from an enemy plane at an extremely low level. There was seemingly no way we could escape being hit; yet the bomb, at the last moment, drifted and landed harmlessly in the water instead of striking our ship, which was loaded with high explosives.

In learning of the immediacy of good, I have been most wonderfully supplied with all things needful. The type of work I most desired to do, but could never seem to obtain, was simply and naturally presented to me in a way seemingly miraculous, while I was still in the service. This work is unfolding in a harmonious and prosperous way through the study of Christian Science and help of practitioners.

The understanding of man's identity as the son of God has supplanted such unlovely habits as smoking and the use of coffee. At first I was rebellious about giving up smoking, but when I finally saw that I was not giving up anything real and was actually gaining more good, the habit disappeared, and the healing has been permanent. As a result of this healing, I have the great privilege of membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church and have had the blessing of class instruction.—Ivan Bartlett, Long Beach, California.
