With a sincere desire to bring...
With a sincere desire to bring hope and encouragement to those who may feel in need of healing from some disease, or who have not found relief from the discomforts of what are termed human difficulties, I write this testimony.
As a child I was taught to believe that God is the author of both good and evil; but after I read some Christian Science literature, it became clear to me that this is not so. Subsequent healings convinced me that I had really found the truth for which I had prayed.
All my life I had suffered from sick headache, constipation, and gastritis. A so-called inherited difficulty also afflicted me. Physicians who were consulted informed me that I must have an operation for nasal trouble; also that I must live in a warmer climate. Before taking up the study of Science in July, 1935, I did undergo an operation, but the results were far from satisfactory. Then, upon the advice of the doctors, my teeth were all removed; but there was no improvement in my physical condition. Two eye specialists told me I had sinus trouble, and I had an operation for this, with the same result—no relief.
By this time I was convinced that there must be some other way of meeting these many difficulties, but I hesitated for a time about taking up Christian Science, because it seemed disloyal on my part to turn from my old religious teaching. One eventful morning I found myself unable to move about, but I did manage to crawl to the telephone and call a Christian Science practitioner about whom I had heard. He said he would give me some help. I began to improve at once. Discarding all my former remedies, I purchased a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and the following day left for a vacation. I studied this book continually. After some time a healing came to me of the tobacco habit, to which I had been a slave for many years.
I was completely healed of all my ailments, and for a number of years I have enjoyed the great benefits accruing to anyone who will sincerely follow the teachings of the Bible and the Christian Science textbook. Recently I was healed of a severe case of pain, stiffness, and swelling in my hip by realizing that "there is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter" (Science and Health, p. 468). Today I am enjoying better health and morals and have a vision of the reality of God, Mind, and His creation.
I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church as well as in a branch church. I am grateful also that there is a daily paper with such a high standard as that of The Christian Science Monitor. Words alone are inadequate for me to express my gratitude, so I will try to express it more fully by taking and continuing to take, as in the past, an active part in church work.— Reginald John Munoz, Oakland, California.
