Sixteen years ago I began to read Christian Science literature through curiosity. Several of my acquaintances had become interested in Science, and because of their enthusiasm and devotion to it, I wished to know for myself what it was that healed them and gave to them so much happiness and peace. At first I was impatient that I could not immediately grasp fully this wonderful truth. Mrs. Eddy tells us in Science and Health (pp. 288, 289), "The eternal Truth destroys what mortals seem to have learned from error, and man's real existence as a child of God comes to light." I spent many hours, between business calls, in the Christian Science Reading Rooms, and with the loving help and guidance of friends, a new world began gradually to open to me.

Shortly after I became interested in Christian Science, there was a period when all material security seemed to have completely vanished. Our oldest son had just been born, and my wife had been given up by the doctors. With the help of a Christian Science practitioner and a short stay at the Christian Science Benevolent Association Sanatorium, she was quickly restored to health. When the time approached for her to return home, I had no job and no home for her and the baby. Fear tried very hard to rule me, but I clung steadfastly to the verse (I John 4:18), "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear." When the proper time came, we were supplied with a place to live which met our immediate needs, and before long I obtained a position which has steadily given me the opportunity for advancement.

Our second son was born without my wife's experiencing any of the physical difficulties which attended the first birth. Both of these boys have been healed of croup, measles, mumps, colds, and other ailments through Christian Science treatment. Steady improvement in our income and living conditions has been experienced, and our home has been immeasurably blessed through our study and application of the truth.

During these years I have been healed of many wrong thoughts and characteristics, including temper, an inferiority complex, fear of public speaking, and smoking and social drinking. By keeping my thinking in line with Truth I have been more able to reflect divine qualities and overcome the belief of the necessity for competition, aggressive, business tactics, lack, jealousy, and maladjustment in environment. Cases of eczema and sinus trouble of long standing were instantly overcome.

A few years ago I was involved in a serious automobile accident which caused internal injuries and the multiple fracture of several ribs. A Christian Science practitioner was called for treatment. By complete reliance on Truth, I was healed in a fraction of the time that had been declared necessary by the dot for at a medical examination, which was required by the company that employed me, and I was able to resume my duties without any aftereffects.

The opportunity to participate in church activities has aided my growth in the understanding of Christian Science. The wonderful privilege of class instruction has been a help and an inspiration. The only way I can hope to express my gratitude that the false sense of self is giving place to an understanding of man in God's image and likeness, that human striving is giving place to calm and expectant trust in Mind, is by humbly trying to express more of divine Life, Truth, and Love every day.
