Since I am one of the many who...
Since I am one of the many who have long enjoyed the benefits of Christian Science, I should like to add my testimony in deep gratitude to God.
When quite young, I was led to seek Christian Science because I was suffering from severe nervous disorders and mental depression. All my life had been spent under the care of doctors, and for a time their verdict was that I would never live to grow up. Life seemed completely joyless and not worth living.
On the recommendation of a friend who was a consecrated student of Christian Science, I bought a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I shall never forget the spiritual uplift, the indescribable peace and joy, that tame to me while first reading the chapter on Prayer in that wonderful book. From that day on, a new outlook on life opened up to me. With the help of an understanding practitioner, the physical troubles began to disappear, and for the first time in my life I knew what it was to be well. The mental gloom disappeared also. I was learning that health, strength, and happiness are my birthright as God's child.
Before long I was able to return to school and take a strenuous teachers' training course. That I finished this course with very few days' absence seemed like a miracle to my parents, because I had never been able to attend school regularly as a child.
In the years of teaching that followed, Christian Science was my daily support and help in maintaining harmonious conditions among the children under my care. I am most grateful for that experience and for the many needed lessons learned during that time.
I have had many other physical healings, among them those of influenza and a tendency to frequent severe colds. A finger so badly infected that gangrene had set in was healed without recourse to medical aid. It was a glorious proof of the power of Truth and Love. I am most grateful for these healings and for the consecrated work of the practitioners who helped to bring them about.
I thank God for the life and work of our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy. Every day her great love and wisdom in establishing the Christian Science movement on its firm foundation become more apparent. My prayer is that I may be a worthy follower. For the blessings of church membership and the inspiration gained in sharing in its activities, I am truly grateful.—(Miss) Agnes K. Baker, Los Angeles, California.
