My heart is full of gratitude to God for the teachings of Christian Science and for a recent physical healing.

One day I went to business feeling quite well and happy. In less than an hour I returned home in such a weak, exhausted condition that my employer tried to persuade me to let someone drive me home in my car. I went to bed with a very high temperature. During the rest of the day I was in a restless, painful condition, and all the following night I was awake, being at times delirious.

My wife helped me by doing much mental work as taught in Christian Science. Since I did not seem able to help myself or to think clearly, for my condition grew worse, the next day she decided to ring up a Christian Science practitioner. The practitioner was away from home for a few days. My wife informed me of this and said, "Now is a time to prove for ourselves the teachings of Christian Science," and I listened whilst she read some passages from the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy.

During the reading of the textbook I was freed of all fear, I realized that there is only one power and one presence, God, good. I fell into a restful sleep, the first I had had for two nights and days. My healing had taken place through the realization of God's power and presence, a power nothing can withstand. When I awoke, I desired a little food, and in three days I returned to business, much to the astonishment of my employers.

The healing was wonderful from a physical standpoint, but for the dominion which we both gained through the experience, for a better understanding of God's nearness and presence at all times and the power of good to offset error, I am deeply grateful. I feel that this experience has placed me on a higher rung of the ladder in my journey from sense to Soul.

Freedom from the smoking habit after I had been a fairly heavy smoker for over twenty years, the wonderful help Christian Science has been to me in business, and the realization of what is my true business, which healed unemployment for me at the commencement of the last World War, are further causes for great gratitude.

The following passage from the Christian Science textbook has been one of many that have helped me to prove my oneness with God (p. 495): "When the illusion of sickness or sin tempts you, cling steadfastly to God and His idea. Allow nothing but His is likeness to abide in your thought. Let neither fear nor doubt overshadow your clear sense and calm trust, that the recognition of life harmonious—as Life eternally is—can destroy any painful sense of, or belief in, that which Life is not. Let Christian Science, instead of corporeal sense, support your understanding of being, and this understanding will supplant error with Truth, replace mortality with immortality, and silence discord with harmony."— William Harold Yates, Whitefield, Lancashire, England.
