SCIENTIFIC ADAPTABILITY

A Normal desire innate in every individual is to progress. Life implies progressive activity. For what could one better adapt or fit himself than health rather than sickness, success instead of failure, and life in place of decay and death? In the book of Ezekiel we read (18:32), "I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord God: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye."

As one studies the life of Christ Jesus it will be noted that he did not adapt himself to remain in or endure the discords and limitations of mortality. Rather did he consistently turn away from and relinquish materiality with its attendant beliefs of disease, sin, and death. He was ever aware that God, Spirit, governs man, and thus was able to demonstrate the power of infinite good. Divine Mind, which always governed his every thought and deed, will lead all who faithfully follow its directing to behold increasingly fresh views of divine Life and Love. In the textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes (p.337), "For true happiness, man must harmonize with his Principle, divine Love; the Son must be in accord with the Father, in conformity with Christ."

Adaptability, in the sense of alteration or adjustment, is requisite only so long as the beliefs of mortality last. The real man and universe, which forever reflect the harmony of God's eternal law, need no adjustment. Mankind must awake from the belief of life in matter and learn that God's laws are ever available to meet every need and to forward humanity's progress toward spiritual and immortal life.
